Malakal is an urban city in South Sudan and the capital of Unity State.
- February 21, 2014: Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek said that there have been atrocities in the city and that the humanitarian situation is grim. An official release said that people in the city are subjected to targeted killing based on their ethnic identities, women are being raped in broad day light with impunity, unnecessary killing of the very elderly, children and sick people on their hospital beds. Doctors Without Borders said it and the International Red Cross have reported to have treated more than 150 people injured in gunshot wounds in the last three days.
